Do what you can, with what you have

My second grader has been diligently saving his tooth fairy money for 2 years now. He’s accumulated a nice little stash, keeping it securely tucked away in a lock-box on his desk.

Today, I took a moment to explain to him, in simple, accurate detail, exactly what happened in The Philippines last weekend. He was quiet and thoughtful as I explained the size of the storm, the horrible aftermath, and the great need. I mentioned how important it is for us, when we see a need like this, to help in any way we can.

My little boy didn’t hesitate. He went up to his room, emptied out his tooth fairy box, and deposited a jumbled pile of dollar bills on the kitchen table.

“Will this help, Mommy?”

Yes, it will.  Very much.

The deepest kind of Happy Day can be found when we’re helping others.

I’ll be donating my little boys tooth fairy money, along with my own additional amount, to The Red Cross. If you haven’t done so yet, please consider making a donation to this or another worthy charity helping in the Phillipnes.  The Red Cross: https://www.redcross.org/donate/index.jsp?donateStep=2&itemId=prod4650031
